NST Clinical Training | Neuroinclusive Therapy Framework for Clinicians

NST Clinical Training for Clinicians

Neurocontextual Systems Therapy (NST) is a neuroinclusive, systems‑based framework that reframes distress as a predictable response to mismatch between a person's real capacities and real demands — not a symptom of internal disorder. NST gives clinicians a structured way to assess person–environment fit, map capacity and load, and intervene at the source of distress rather than just managing what shows up downstream.

NST uses a dual‑pathway approach. The first track addresses the mismatch itself — the environments, demands, and structural conditions that exceed a person's actual capacity. The second addresses what chronic mismatch does to a person's sense of self over time. When someone has spent years receiving the message — explicitly or implicitly — that the problem is them, that story becomes embedded in how they take in new experiences and what meaning they make of them. Reducing mismatch without addressing that layer leaves half the clinical picture untouched. Both tracks are active in NST from the beginning.

NST applies across all neurotypes and all client presentations. It is especially useful with neurodivergent adults, mixed‑neurotype couples and families, and any client whose distress has not responded to symptom‑focused approaches — but it is not limited to those populations.

NST was designed to be used, not gated. This framework grew out of real‑world clinical work, not a boutique training pipeline. Training is offered in multiple formats — including directly with me — and the written materials are priced to be accessible. The goal is a framework clinicians can actually integrate into practice, not one that lives behind expensive credentialing.

Who NST Training Is For

NST clinical training is for licensed mental health clinicians who want a framework that goes beyond symptom treatment. It is a good fit if you are:

  • Looking for a neuroinclusive, capacity‑oriented framework that works across all neurotypes — not just with neurodivergent clients.
  • Working with clients whose distress keeps returning despite solid symptom‑focused work, and want a way to understand and address what's upstream.
  • Seeing neurodivergent adults, mixed‑neurotype couples or families, or clients navigating chronic overload, burnout, or person–environment mismatch.
  • Wanting concrete clinical tools — assessment, formulation, treatment planning, session structure — not just a conceptual lens.
  • Interested in training directly with the framework's developer, or in working through structured written materials at your own pace.

What NST Training Covers

NST training is comprehensive and clinically grounded. Whether you train directly with me or work through the written materials, you will come away able to use NST with real clients — not just understand it conceptually.

  • The MOD cycle (Mismatch → Overload → Distress) and NST's dual‑track intervention model: Systems Alignment and Narrative Repair.
  • How to administer, score, and interpret the NFMS — NST's primary assessment instrument for measuring person–environment fit.
  • How to complete an NST‑specific intake, build a case formulation, and write a treatment plan with dual‑track goals.
  • How to structure sessions across all four treatment phases, including the non‑negotiable capacity check that opens every session.
  • How to apply NST with individuals, couples, and across specialized populations — and how to document NST work in insurance‑compatible language.

NST Training Materials

  • NST Clinical Training Manual — the complete clinical training document covering all 16 sections of the NST framework, with full case transcripts, worked examples, and a comprehensive appendix library. Includes all clinical tools. First Edition, 2026.
  • NST Clinical Training Curriculum — an 8‑module, 16‑week structured course guide that organizes the manual into a sequenced learning path with objectives, checkpoints, study activities, and consultation benchmarks. First Edition, 2026.

Training Paths

NST training is available in several formats. Training directly with me is the most supported path and the one I recommend when it is feasible. The written materials are also designed to be clinically complete and usable on their own for clinicians who need a flexible, independent option.

1. Individual NST Training & Consultation

Training directly with me is the most direct path into NST practice. I offer individual training sessions for clinicians learning the framework, as well as ongoing consultation for clinicians who are already applying NST and want support with real cases. If you are interested in individual training or consultation, reach out to discuss availability and fit.

2. NST Q&A Sessions

Periodically I host live Q&A sessions for clinicians who are curious about NST and want to hear more about the framework, its scope, and whether it is a good fit for their practice before committing to training. These are open, free, and a good starting point if you are still orienting to what NST is.

3. NST Training Materials

The NST Clinical Training Manual and NST Clinical Training Curriculum are available in the store for clinicians who want to work through the framework independently. The manual is the complete clinical training document. The curriculum organizes it into a structured 16‑week course with module checkpoints, study activities, and consultation guidance.

4. NST Training Cohort

A small‑group NST training cohort is in development — a live, structured training experience with case consultation, discussion, and direct support applying the framework in your setting. Join the interest list to be notified when the first cohort opens.

NST Training – FAQs

How do I get training in NST?

The most supported path is individual training directly with me — you can reach out through the inquiry link above to discuss availability and fit. If you prefer to work independently, the NST Clinical Training Manual and NST Clinical Training Curriculum are available in the NST Training Materials store. If you are not sure yet, a Q&A session is a good starting point.

Do I need to work with neurodivergent clients to use NST?

No. NST is a neuroinclusive framework that applies across all neurotypes. It is particularly well‑suited for neurodivergent adults and mixed‑neurotype systems, but the core model — mismatch between capacity and demand as a driver of distress — applies to any client experiencing chronic overload regardless of neurotype. You do not need a neurodivergent caseload to use this framework effectively.

Do you offer individual consultation for clinicians already using NST?

Yes. Individual NST consultation is available for clinicians who are applying the framework and want case‑level support. Reach out through the inquiry link above to discuss what you are working on and whether consultation is a good fit.

How do you approach pricing for NST training?

NST is a neuroinclusive, systems‑level model, and wide access matters more to me than revenue from training. The written materials are priced to be accessible — not free, because that would undervalue them, but not expensive either. Individual training and consultation are priced to reflect live clinical time. Group cohorts, when available, will be priced to balance access with sustainability. The goal is a framework clinicians can actually afford to learn and use — not a boutique credentialing program.
